A Chilling Murder. Another case for DCI Tom Caton.

When Premiership footballer Sunday Okowu-Bello is found dead Caton realises that this case will be anything but straightforward. As he digs deeper he finds himself drawn into a bewildering nexus of gambling cartels, security firms, the victim's Nigerian sponsors, Far Right extremists, and East European and Far East syndicates jostling for ownership of the club.

When a second body is found in the Manchester Ship Canal Caton knows that the killing has only just begun.

The one thing you have to do when reading the Tom Caton series of books is that you have to start at the first one and then it rocks.
Now I have to buy from Amazon.com, as , I can't buy from Amazon.co.uk as there is a weird little thief in the Amazon business plan that won't allow me to buy from them - As Bill Rogers is from Great Britain I am suprised by this weirdness or worse .
Getting back to the 'Tom Caton' series - I stumbled upon these a couple of weeks ago - well researched and written with gusto and absolutely entertaining , bring them on holiday or just read them on the train , you will be suprised and enchanted with gusto.
Just one more comment - It would help Kindle users if the series was presented in a consequitive format and not randomly.
It will tickle my testicles if this is published .

The Frozen Contract DCI Tom Caton Manchester Murder Mysteries Series Book 7 edition by Bill Rogers Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I found this book not as well crafted as some of his others. The characters were well crafted, but I felt that the plot was not as enticing as in other books of his. I can certainly forgive him for letting me down, hopefully others will be as charitable.
I have been reading all the Tom Caton detective stories. This one was good.
Love Bill Rogers but this book i found boring and not up to his usual standard.I have enjoyed all of his books to date , they are always in a different setting and this makes for interesting reading.
Interesting and insightful into things going on in top league soccer, not to mention the shady goings-on in local politics.
Plot has lots of twists and turns, that hold the reader's attention.
For me one of the better ones of Rogers' books, but don't know whether this would be true for somebody not interested in soccer.
All in all very much recommended.
Rogers has done it again. What starts out with the frozen body of a professional rugby star morphs into a melange of the local mob, mysterious Chinese "businessmen" and Eastern European thugs. For a while it looks like Tom Caton is overmatched but with a little help from his "friends" he overcomes those seemingly insurmountable odds and a heirarchical time limit and triumphs; all the while juggling the burden of fatherhood, current and future.
My first exposure to Bill Rogers’ Tom Caton series was a sample of “A Trace of Blood.” I was surprised to find the first part placed in Manchester, New Hampshire rather than Manchester, England, and doubly surprised to find the New England Yankees in the story speaking broad Britlish, saying that the paperwork would be “sorted” and describing a traffic incident as hit-and-skip. The American phrases would be “taken care of” and “hit-and-run.” But, of course, most of the series is placed in England, and you don’t have to know what a “sausage barm” is to follow the language.
It is best to read them in order, as another reviewer said, as there is a gentle and pleasant love story that emerges gradually from one novel to the next. Individually, most of the novels are badly edited, with commas and quotation marks occurring pretty much at random, but they are not as bad as many e-books, and two are quite clean. The proofreader gets a much deserved acknowledgement in those books.
The plots are a bit formulaic, but it is a pretty good formula. The reader has to sit through some fairly dull police team meetings (in which background information is revealed) but the stories are gripping at the minor and major climaxes. The characters are well drawn and round enough that one can care about them, especially after one has read two or three of the series. Some of the villains and the action are a bit over the top, but that’s in the nature of the genre. All in all (to quote a Cockney friend of mine) “good value f’money.”
Sunday is found frozen to death. Since he is a professional football player, the case is fraught with tension. This book delves into the high stakes game of British football. The financial dealings behind the scenes and the lives the players lead. Again bringing in the love that Mr. Rogers has for the city of Manchester is a pleasure. As bodies keep turning up, we learn about shady deals with overseas financiers and thugs. Again with the typos and other small errors were not too much of a distraction, but there all the same. Tom and his relationship with his team are refreshing and interesting. Another good entry into the Tom Caton series.
